A letter from Bonnie

I am a self-taught landscape and portrait artist. I grew up on a small piece of heaven named Sugar Island near Tweed, Ontario, with a very loving large family in a small, sweet home. After I married, I spent ten years travelling in western Canada with my husband, practicing my art with amazing scenery all around me. We eventually came back to Ontario with two children in tow and soon a third child was born. I continue to practice my sketching and painting and have taught many art classes as a volunteer at local schools.

My practice is driven by a passion for the beauty of eastern Ontario and my desire to preserve it on canvas or paper. So many places are disappearing, having been torn down or repurposed, and I want tocapture some of the places I have seen so that they will not be lost. I am an artist because it calms my soul and enriches my life. If I encourage one child to draw or if I am able to comfort someone with a commissioned portrait or landscape, then it’s worth all my time.

My children and now grandchildren are showing me that this is an inherited talent! My Grandmother who inspired me with her paintings must be smiling down on us all.
